Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz-led Punjab government has imposed section 144 across the province to ensure security during the ten days of Muharram.

According to the Interior Secretary Punjab, strict implementation of foolproof security arrangements and SOPs will be enforced across the province.

The spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said that no new innovations will be allowed in Muharram processions and gatherings, and the display of weapons and incendiary materials in public places will be prohibited without permission.

Provocative slogans and gestures inciting public sentiments, beliefs, and sects have been completely banned, he added.

The restriction has also been imposed on speeches inciting inter-religious, communal, or ethnic hatred.

A ban has been imposed on pillion riding, except for senior citizens, women, and law enforcement officials, from 7th to 10th Muharram.

"All restrictions, except pillion riding, will apply from 1st to 10th Muharram," the spokesman informed.

The measures aim to maintain peace and security during the sacred month of Muharram.
