Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the recent flag hoisting at the so-called “Ram Temple” built on the site of the historic Babri Mosque in Ayodhya.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Babri Mosque “was demolished on 6 December 1992 by the extremist mobs inspired by fascist ideologies.” It added that the subsequent judicial decisions in India, which cleared those responsible and allowed construction of a temple at the site, “speak volumes about the Indian state's discriminatory approach towards minorities.”
The statement highlighted that this incident is part of a wider pattern of pressure on religious minorities in India and an attempt to undermine Muslim cultural and religious heritage under majoritarian Hindutva ideology.
It also warned that numerous other historic mosques in India face threats of desecration or demolition, while Muslims in the country continue to face growing social, economic, and political marginalization.
Pakistan called on the international community to address the situation, urging that the United Nations and other relevant bodies “play a constructive role in safeguarding Islamic heritage and ensuring protection of the religious and cultural rights of all minorities.”
The Ministry further urged the Indian government to fulfill its responsibilities by protecting all religious communities, including Muslims, and securing their places of worship “in accordance with international human rights obligations.”
