The Pakistan Foreign Office dismissed speculations circulating on social media suggesting that Pakistan introduced changes to a Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution on the Occupied Palestinian Territories to protect Israeli officials from accountability.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Foreign Office clarified that Pakistan neither introduced the resolution independently nor amended it unilaterally at any stage.

It reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding position of non-recognition of Israel and its refusal to engage with Israeli officials on any multilateral platform.

"We have taken note of certain social media posts concerning the recently adopted Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. These posts, based on inaccurate media reports, reflect a misunderstanding of the resolution adoption process and mischaracterize its outcome,” the statement said.

Recently, social media posts claimed that Pakistan had removed a clause from the resolution that "would have led to the creation of a UN mechanism to prosecute Israeli officials."

The Foreign Office termed these reports "misleading" and based on inaccurate media accounts.

The Foreign Office emphasised that the resolution was not Pakistan’s initiative but a routine annual submission by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group in Geneva.

"The resolution is presented only after the Palestinian delegation, following thorough negotiations, expresses satisfaction with the text and upon final endorsement by the entire OIC Group," it explained.

Pakistan, acting as the OIC coordinator, presented the resolution with full support from the Palestinian delegation.

“At no stage the text is modified unilaterally. The resolution adopted during the latest HRC session adhered strictly to this process,” the statement added.

The Foreign Office also clarified that the objective of the resolution was not to drop any accountability mechanism but to forward it to the UN General Assembly for further action.

"Pakistan does not recognise Israel and, as a matter of principle, does not engage with it in multilateral forums. Any suggestion of accommodating Israeli preferences is therefore baseless."

“For the record, the HRC’s recent session also adopted two additional OIC-sponsored resolutions on Palestine,” it added.

The Foreign Office concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s firm stance on Palestine and warned against any misrepresentation of its commitment.

“Pakistan’s delegations in New York and Geneva remain fully aligned with the Palestinian position, in accordance with OIC decisions. We caution against any attempts to misrepresent Pakistan’s unwavering and historic commitment to the Palestinian cause.”
