Parts of Karachi receive light to moderate rain

Several areas of Karachi received light to moderate rain early Friday morning, with the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) predicting heavy downpours throughout the day.
I. I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town and Manghopir Northern Bypass have recived light to heavy drizzle.
However, weather analyst Jawad Memon predicted heavy rain in the port city for the entire day.
Isolated hailstorms in some parts of Karachi are also likely during the period, he added.
It's pertinent to mention here that in view of the heavy rain forecast, the Sindh government has declared a rain-emergency in the metropolis.
The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department also announced the suspension of evening classes in all government and private schools across Sindh.
Earlier, the Met Office said torrential downpours with thunderstorms are likely in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta and other cities from March 1 and March 2 under the strong westerly wave system.
On the other hand, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab requested citizens to "avoid unnecessary movement to avert any inconvenience" during the rain.
