The Peshawar High Court has granted bail to the suspects involved in the mob lynching of a tourist in Swat's Madyan area over the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.

Around 24 individuals accused of lynching and burning alive Sulaiman Qamar have been granted post-arrest bail by the Mingora bench of the PHC.

Journalist Arshad Yousufzai, who has been diligently following the case, disclosed this information on the microblogging platform X.

On June 21, Sulaiman Qamar was physically tortured and set on fire by an enraged mob who accused him of burning pages of the Holy Quran.

The police initially filed two FIRs, one against Sulaiman and another against the rioters who brutally lynched him.

A case was registered against 49 known and 2,500 unknown individuals named in the FIR, and a joint investigation team was formed to carry out the investigation.

Local police made several arrests related to the incident, including three key suspects.

A report by a federal agency after the tragedy held the police responsible for the chaos, noting that officers had shifted the victim to the Madyan police station instead of a 'safe place'.

The enraged mob stormed the police station, thrashed the victim and tortured him to death.

The victim of the mob lynching was described as a kind-hearted man who never mocked religion but instead showed a desire to deepen his understanding of the Holy Quran.

"A friend recalled that Qamar expressed a desire to not just read the Quran religiously, but to gain a deeper understanding of it. He also had a strong devotion to Maulana Rumi and listened to lectures by Javed Ghamidi," his childhood friend said.
