Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has criticised the opposition, particularly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for their agitational politics and stressed the need for political stability in the country.
Speaking via video link to mark PPP's 57th foundation day, Bilawal called for a resolution to the ongoing political instability, stating that stability could either be achieved through "dialogue or baton."
Bilawal urged the “non-political opposition” to adopt democratic norms, warning that failure to do so would harm both the opposition and the country as a whole.
He added that major opposition parties, including PTI, were neither political nor democratic in their approach.
The PPP Chairman’s remarks come after a series of protests organized by PTI, led by its founder Imran Khan. The protests, which took place earlier this week, were marked by fierce clashes between law enforcement and PTI supporters.
Bilawal also addressed speculation regarding the potential imposition of governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the wake of the PTI’s protests. While media reports suggested that the federal cabinet, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s guidance, had discussed this option, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif dismissed these claims, asserting that the government was not planning to impose governor rule in the province.
Bilawal indicated that if the matter was presented to PPP, they would aim for a mutual decision on the issue.
In his address, Bilawal further criticized PTI for focusing on the release of their incarcerated leader rather than addressing the public's issues. He stated that the PPP's primary goal was to restore peace and end terrorism in the country, with political parties and institutions capable of steering Pakistan out of its current crisis.
