Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suspended the basic membership of outspoken leader Sher Afzal Marwat on the orders of party founder Imran Khan, sources said on Friday.
According to the sources, the decision came after the PTI lawmaker met the incarcerated party founder and top leadership in Adiala Jail on Thursday.
Sources further claimed that Marwat had been violating the party discipline for the past months, making derogatory statements and criticising party leadership.
“During the meeting with Imran Khan, it was agreed that no leader is above the party and all other leaders would face the same fate if they crossed the party line,” they added.
“A formal statement would be issued on Friday (today) in this regard,” stated the sources.
The PTI leader was elected to the National Assembly in the February 8 elections.
In May, Secretary General Omar Ayub removed Marwat from the party’s core committee on the order of Mr Khan after he made a statement about the involvement of Saudi Arabia in the alleged "regime change operation", in April 2022.
PTI MNA accused both the US and Saudi Arabia of conspiring to ouster of Imran Khan-led PTI government through a no-confident motion by the joint opposition alliance.
Earlier weeks, Marwat had accused the party’s bigwig of making "zero efforts" for the release of Imran Khan.
He had also demanded the resignations of Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub, saying he would not work under their leadership.
