KARACHI: Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed various parts of the urban port city on Monday night, as the Meteorological Office forecasted a likelihood of showers across Sindh province from August 27 to 31.

Rainfall, along with gusty winds, impacted areas like Malir Cantt and its surroundings, with thunderstorms, strong winds, and drizzle reported near the airport. Other neighborhoods, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Tariq Road, PECHS, FB Area, Bufferzone, and II Chundrigar Road, experienced varying intensities of rain, ranging from light to heavy, along with strong winds. A few areas in Defence also witnessed rain showers.

Earlier, during a meeting focused on rain emergency measures chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Met Chief Sardar Sarfaraz informed that Karachi could receive between 150mm to 200mm of rainfall under the upcoming weather system, according to an official statement from the Sindh CM House.

The Met Chief also highlighted the expectation of windstorms, scattered heavy rainfall, and isolated very heavy falls during this period. He warned that urban flooding is anticipated, particularly in Karachi and other metropolitan cities of Sindh, due to the predicted torrential downpours.
