Acting on directives issued by the Peshawar High Court, police dispersed protesters staging sit-ins on blocked highways and restored traffic flow across the province.
After the court ordered the immediate reopening of public roads for all types of traffic, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the provincial administration launched a large-scale operation to clear roadblocks. Several major arteries have since been reopened.
According to the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the court made it clear that obstructing the public’s Right to Movement constitutes a violation of the Constitution.
In this context, IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed directed all regional and district police officers to implement the court’s orders in letter and spirit and to ensure the immediate reopening of all routes to facilitate public travel.
During the operation, barriers placed at Attock Bridge on the GT Road — a key link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — were removed and traffic was restored.
Roads connecting Dera Ismail Khan with Mianwali and Chashma were also reopened.
The Dera Ismail Khan–Islamabad Motorway (M-14), including the CPEC Yarik Toll Plaza, was cleared for public traffic. Meanwhile, the Hazara Motorway’s Havelian and Muslimabad interchanges were likewise reopened by police.
The IG stated that the primary objective of the operation was to ensure uninterrupted travel for citizens, prevent disruption to business and daily life, and reaffirm that the blocking of highways will not be tolerated.
He added that the public’s constitutional right to free movement will be fully protected in accordance with the law.
