The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province on February 8, 2025, restricting all forms of political protests, rallies, processions, and sit-ins.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the measure was taken to maintain public order, safeguard human lives, and protect property.
The decision to enforce Section 144 was made based on recommendations from the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order and the Provincial Intelligence Committee, the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for a "Black Day" on February 8, 2025, to protest alleged electoral fraud.

PTI Punjab’s Chief Organizer, Aaliya Hamza, directed the party’s national and provincial assembly members to hold peaceful protests in their respective constituencies.
She emphasised that PTI is a responsible political party, asserting that peaceful protest is both a constitutional and legal right.
Hamza confirmed that PTI's planned protest would be limited to the Swabi region, with no intention to escalate conflict or cause disruption elsewhere.
