Power supply to Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation's Pipri pumping station has been suspended due to the theft of a power cable.
According to the corporation's spokesperson, power supply to the pumping station was suspended at 9:40am and had not been restored even after 12 hours. The prolonged power outage is expected to disrupt the city's water supply system, with approximately 145 million gallons of water potentially affected.
Areas likely to be affected include Landhi, Korangi, Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi, as well as Shah Faisal Colony, PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, Karsaz, DHA and Qayyumabad.
K-Electric officials told the Water Corporation that the disruption was caused by the theft of the cable supplying electricity to the Pipri pumping station.
The KWSC said its officials are in continuous contact with K-Electric management to restore power to the pumping station. It added that measures would be taken to normalise water supply as soon as electricity is restored.
