The Sindh High Court has established a judicial commission to investigate the tragic fire at Gul Plaza, a prominent shopping centre on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi, which occurred on 17 January 2026.

The Sindh government had written to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court on 29 January 2026, requesting a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The High Court responded by constituting a single-member judicial commission headed by Justice Agha Faisal, under the Sindh Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance 1969, based on the terms of reference submitted by the provincial government.

The commission will examine the causes of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The duration of the commission’s work and other details will be notified by the Sindh government.

A letter issued by the Registrar’s Office of the Sindh High Court instructed that all documents related to the incident be presented before Justice Agha Faisal.

The Sindh Home Department has also been informed. The fire at Gul Plaza tragically claimed the lives of more than 70 people.
