The Sindh government's sports department has issued false cheques to athletes who won medals in the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games 2024. Numerous errors have made it difficult for athletes and their families to cash these cheques

The games were held in Islamabad, where Sindh athletes participated and secured the third position with 79 medals.

During the closing ceremony, the Sindh government issued Rs100,000 cheques to gold medalists, Rs75,000 to silver medalists, and Rs50,000 to bronze medalists, but these amounts have yet to be cashed due to several discrepancies.

There are several inconsistencies between the numerical and written amounts. For example, one cheque displayed Rs65,000 in numbers while stating Rs50,000 in words, creating difficulties for the athletes in cashing them.

Cheques riddled with errors, such as discrepancies between the numerical and written amounts, caused significant confusion and complications for the athletes.

Furthermore, several cheques were issued in the names of children, while bank accounts for these young athletes were still being opened despite parents submitting all the necessary details and documents.

On the other hand, the Sports Department contended that the details were not provided.

According to reports,  the sports department issued cheques to the athletes despite lacking sufficient funds in their account. For this reason, cheques were issued with month-long deadlines

“Third quarters grant has yet been released so far. To prevent athletes from facing difficulties due to bounced cheques, the department has given them a month to cash the amount,” said Abdul Aleem Lashari, Secretary Sports Department,

He acknowledged that some cheques contain errors and encouraged athletes to visit the office to have these errors corrected."
