The Karachi police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of his friend in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.

According to the police, a person, named Zohaib, was murdered in the Abidabad area Thursday night.

They said Ali, a friend of the victim, has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the murder.

The deceased was a spare parts dealer, who had gone to Ali’s house to return his car after getting it serviced, added the police.

In a statement, the suspect claimed that he and his friend were checking a pistol that accidentally went off, taking the latter’s life.

The police said further investigation into the incident is underway.

Earlier, in December last year, a traffic policeman lost his life and another got injured when a fellow policeman's gun accidentally fired at their residential quarters in Landhi.

Constable Fahmeed Akhtar, 30, was killed, and Constable Gul Sher, 35, was hurt during the accidental discharge while checking a pistol inside the Landhi police barracks.

Constable Ali Ahmed accidentally fired his gun while cleaning it, hitting Fahmeed and then injuring Gul Sher. They all lived in the same barracks.
