The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has revised customs values for the import of several smartphone brands, a move that has reduced the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax on older and used mobile phones brought into the country.

The revised valuation applies only to used and refurbished devices and does not affect brand-new smartphones. Popular brands impacted by the change include Apple, Samsung, Google and OnePlus.

Following the updated customs values, the overall PTA tax payable on used iPhone 15 series models has declined, lowering their estimated retail cost in Pakistan.

Based on current market rates, a used or refurbished iPhone 15 is available internationally for around $350. At the revised customs valuation, the PTA tax on this model is estimated at Rs34,101 when registered on a CNIC and Rs31,640 on a passport. This places the expected total cost of the device at approximately Rs130,000 or above.

For the iPhone 15 Plus, which is currently priced at around $370 in the used market, the PTA tax is estimated at Rs46,068 on a CNIC and Rs40,448 on a passport. The total retail price is expected to be around Rs145,000 or higher.

The iPhone 15 Pro, valued at approximately $400 in the used market, is expected to attract PTA taxes of around Rs47,580 on a CNIC and Rs41,960 on a passport. This brings its estimated total price to about Rs155,000 or more.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to cost around Rs175,000 after registration, with PTA taxes estimated at Rs50,604 on a CNIC and Rs44,984 on a passport.
