Microsoft has announced that its video-calling service, Skype, will officially be discontinued on May 5, 2025, after 23 years of operation.

Users are encouraged to migrate to Microsoft Teams, which offers similar functionalities with enhanced features.

Skype users can transfer their contacts and chat history to Teams by signing in with their existing credentials before the shutdown date. Alternatively, those who do not wish to switch can export their Skype data, including messages, files, and contacts, for future reference.

Users can back up their data by accessing their Skype settings and requesting an export of contacts, chat history, and files from the web portal.
