Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced new features aimed at enhancing the experience of status updates.

The new features include the ability to like status updates, resharing status when mentioned, and privately tagging contacts in status updates.

WhatsApp's "Status Likes" function allows users to express their appreciation for a contact's status update with a simple tap.

Likes are private, meaning only the person whose status you liked will see them, and there’s no public counter showing the number of likes.

Additionally, users now have the option to privately mention and tag others in their status updates.

If mentioned in a status, the tagged individuals can also easily reshare it with their own audience.

The new features are part of a gradual global rollout, so users who don't yet see them should expect the updates soon.

The messaging platform has also hinted at more status-related features coming in the near future.
