WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to share motion photos in chats, groups, and channels, expanding the app’s media-sharing capabilities.
According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.8.12 update, available on the Google Play Store.
Motion photos capture brief moments of movement before and after a picture is taken, blending static images with short video clips for a more immersive experience.
Users will see a dedicated motion photo button in the gallery sheet, enabling them to choose between sending a traditional image or an animated version.

The feature is expected to work across individual chats, group conversations, and channels, with recipients viewing motion photos in animated form—even on devices that do not natively support them.
While the feature remains in development, it is anticipated to be compatible with Live Photos on iOS once released in a future update.
