DIG Mahesar’s son allegedly threatens Dialogue Pakistan over accident coverage

Dialogue Pakistan, a prominent media outlet, has reported receiving abusive messages on social media in relation to its coverage of a New Year’s Eve incident involving Aashir Azfar Mahesar, the son of DIG (Deputy Inspector General) of the Rapid Response Force, Azfar Mahesar.

The report had detailed an accident in which Aashir Azfar Mahesar was accused of hitting a woman while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in Karachi’s Garden area.

According to the report, the vehicle involved was a government-owned car, which bore a government number plate.

The woman, who was reportedly injured in the incident, did not file a formal complaint, nor did she provide a medical report, which resulted in no legal action being taken against the accused.

Despite initial police action, including the temporary detention of both the vehicle and the accused, Aashir Mahesar was released after external intervention.

The incident drew further attention when a social media account allegedly associated with Aashir Mahesar began sending abusive messages to the outlet.

The account holder reportedly responded harshly to the coverage of the accident, prompting the media outlet to extend an invitation for the individual to clarify their position.

However,the account continued to use derogatory language instead of offering a response.

Dialogue Pakistan has urged DIG Azfar Mahesar to investigate the matter, noting that if the account truly belonged to his son, it would raise significant concerns about behavior linked to law enforcement officers' families.

In the context of this incident, it was also noted that, earlier this year, a separate video surfaced showing Aashir Azfar Mahesar firing a gun in the air while riding in a luxury vehicle, with police officers reportedly visible in the footage.

These events have drawn public attention to the behavior of the DIG’s son, raising questions about accountability and the use of power by those connected to law enforcement.
