DIG Rapid Response Force, Azfar Mahesar's son, who was involved in running over a woman in Karachi’s Garden area while driving under the influence, was released from prison with no legal action taken against him.
On New Year's night, Asher Azfar Mahesar, along with his cousin Mubashir Raza, was recklessly driving a government vehicle, which bore a government number plate. Their car struck the woman, causing serious injuries.
However, no formal case was registered against the accused due to the victim's family's refusal to take legal action or provide a medical report.
While police initially took Mahesar and his vehicle into custody and transported them to the station, the drunk driver was released later that night following external intervention.
Police said that the DIG's son was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Following the collision, he was unable to flee the scene as a crowd of commuters quickly surrounded his vehicle, preventing his escape.
The situation escalated as the DIG's son's armed personnel reportedly opened fire to disperse the crowd that had gathered around the vehicle.
After more than 48 hours, authorities confirmed the victim's amily’s decision not to pursue the case.
In a separate but related incident earlier this year, social media videos surfaced showing Mahesar's son firing guns into the air while riding in a luxury car. In one of these videos, police officers were reportedly visible.
