GUJRANWALA: A group of domestic workers has been implicated in the theft of 80 tola of gold from a residence in Gujranwala, Punjab, sparking concerns over crimes involving household staff.

The incident came to light after a complaint was lodged with the emergency helpline 15, prompting Safe City authorities to launch an investigation.

Surveillance footage captured three women and two men fleeing the scene in a rickshaw.

The footage, obtained by a virtual patrolling officer, was quickly forwarded to local law enforcement, leading to the swift apprehension of the suspects within a few hours.

Authorities have underscored the importance of conducting thorough background checks on domestic workers, including police record verification, to mitigate the risk of such incidents.

The case bears resemblance to a similar incident in Karachi, where a housemaid sedated her employer and stole valuables worth millions.

Law enforcement officials are advising residents across the country to implement measures to protect their homes and ensure the safety of their families.
