A man in Karachi was shot dead by muggers while resisting a robbery at the Five Star Chowrangi in Karachi, it emerged on Saturday.

Robbers opened fire on the victim identified as Salman, when he resisted. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The deceased was a resident of Liaquatabad No 1, a father of four, and worked as a caterer.

Salman was returning home from his friend’s house in North Nazimabad Block L with his friend Bilal.

Bilal, an eyewitness to the incident, told the media that four armed suspects riding two motorcycles tried to rob his friend at the Five Star Flyover and opened fire.

According to the police, one bullet was fired by the armed suspects, proving fatal. A bullet and a shell casing were also found at the scene.

Additional IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho announced in October that street crimes in Karachi had been reduced by 50% due to increased security measures by the city police.

However, citizens continue to experience street robberies, fueling a sense of insecurity throughout the metropolis.

According to data from the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), nearly 471 people have lost their lives in various crimes in Karachi during the first nine months of 2024, with almost over 100 of these deaths occurring during street crimes.

The city's deteriorating law and order situation has led to the theft of more than 15,000 mobile phones and 35,000 motorcycles between January and September.
