A fraudster was arrested during an attempt to use fake currency notes in Karachi.
As per details, a man attempted to use fake currency at a shoe shop in the market near the Water Pump area but was immediately caught by the vigilant shopkeeper.
According to the shopkeeper, the customer handed over a fake note, and when it was identified, he pulled out another, which also turned out to be counterfeit. "We told him this is fake, and the second note was fake as well," the shopkeeper stated.
The accused identified himself as Shan alias Muhammad Sharif and claimed, "My wedding starts tomorrow, man." Despite his plea, the shopkeepers decided to call the police.
Reports suggest that counterfeit currency has been used in the market before, prompting shopkeepers to stay alert.
Last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) sealed the Hafizabad branch of a leading public sector bank after counterfeit currency notes totaling Rs. 2 million were found.
The fake currency was deposited through a private bank, raising significant concerns about the oversight of banking procedures.
