In a tragic incident, a Hajj pilgrim destined to leave for Saudi Arabia was shot dead while his son was injured over robbery resistance in Lahore's Iqbal Town.
Police said Farooq of Najaf Colony sent his son, Shoaib, to buy Riyals from the market. When he returned home after buying Riyals from a money exchanger at The Mall, two robbers, believed to be chasing him, held him up at the main gate.
Police said when Shoaib resisted, the robbers opened fire at him and his father who had just opened the door. Shoaib suffered a bullet wound in the leg and his father in the chest. They were taken to a nearby hospital where his father was declared dead on arrival.
Police registered a case and started investigation.
Farooq's death has left the community in shock and mourning. He was known as a kind and devout man, and his journey to Hajj was a significant event for his family. His son, Shoaib, is currently in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. His condition is reported to be critical but stable.
This incident highlights the rising concern over street crime in the area and has sparked a conversation about the need for better law enforcement to protect citizens. Farooq's family is left grappling with the loss, just as they were about to celebrate a momentous religious occasion.
