An influential woman, Natasha Danish Iqbal, who killed a father and daughter with her speeding car in Karachi, has been declared mentally ill by her lawyer.

Natasha's counsel, Mr Aamir, told the media that his client has no memory of the incident and is "not in the right frame of mind".

In response, the reporters asked why the family allowed the suspect to drive a car in such "a severe mental condition".

The lawyer claimed the family was unaware that Natasha had taken the car, as "they had imposed restrictions on her due to her mental condition".

When asked why the family did not admit her to mental hospital, the lawyer said: She has been suffering from mental illness for five years and has been undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital."

"She was not violent till yesterday," he added.

The accident occurred on August 19 at Karsaz Road when the suspect lost control of her speeding car and rammed into several people, resulting in two deaths and four injuries.

According to rescue officials, the vehicle overturned and crushed four motorcycles and two cars.

Two people were killed and four were injured in the accident, they informed.

The deceased included a father, named Imran, and his daughter who were returning home after the daughter's work shift ended.

The injured individuals were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for immediate medical assistance.

One of the injured is in critical condition, the hospital administration said.

Following the incident, the suspect was surrounded by the enraged mob, who was later rescued by Police and Rangers personnel.

The police detained the woman responsible for the accident and shifted her to JPMC for a medical check-up.

According to sources, the woman was intoxicated at the time of the accident, however, police are awaiting medical reports to confirm the claims.

Sources further said the suspect is allegedly a member of the prominent Gul Ahmed family. However, no confirmation in this regard was provided by the law enforcers.
