Mir Raza case: Doctor Osama who conducted initial autopsy removed from post

KARACHI: In a significant development in the Mir Raza case, Dr. Osama, who conducted the initial post-mortem examination, has been 'removed' from his position and will now appear before an inquiry committee.

According to hospital authorities, Dr. Osama, who was serving as a Medico-Legal Officer at Jinnah Hospital, was removed from his post over alleged serious errors and negligence in the preparation of the post-mortem report.

Sources said Dr. Osama will appear before the inquiry committee following his removal, where he is expected to be questioned about the alleged discrepancies identified in the post-mortem examination of Mir Raza.

The inquiry committee will also examine the post-mortem report and other relevant evidence before deciding on further action based on the findings of the investigation.

Earlier, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho had acknowledged lapses in the Mir Raza case, saying that shortcomings had occurred at multiple levels, including on the part of the Medico-Legal Officer of the Health Department.

The Sindh police chief said efforts were underway to address all shortcomings identified during the investigation. He added that the inquiry was continuing in light of the detailed report submitted by the medical board.

According to the IG, however, the police had initially proceeded with the investigation on the basis of the medico-legal report that was available at the time.
