Police have arrested Syed Ali Raza Bukhari on suspicion of killing his five months pregnant wife, Syeda Sania Zehra, in Multan, the law enforcers said on Saturday.

Ali Raza was taken into custody on Abdali Road while returning from a press conference at the Multan Press Club, where he had presented a different narrative of events.

During the press conference, the suspect claimed that Sania had committed suicide by hanging herself.

However, Sania's father, Syed Assad Abbas Shah, claimed that her daughter's husband brutally tortured her, cutting her tongue, breaking her teeth, and crushing her feet.

Sania, who had two boys, 3 years old and 1.5 years old, was also raped before being killed by her husband, her father alleged.

Shah also claimed that his son-in-law had killed his daughter for money and property.

On the other hand, Bukhari questioned the motives behind the allegations of his in-laws, saying that he had more property than his father-in-law.

Ali Raza further alleged that his mother-in-law had attempted suicide multiple times in the past.

Earlier, the victim's father had also claimed that his daughter was five months pregnant and alleged that her in-laws were trying to cover up the murder.

Refuting the claims of Sania's father, the postmortem report of the victim confirmed that she was not pregnant at the time of her death.

The report stated that the mark on the 20-year-old victim's neck was consistent with a hanging mark, and she "died of asphyxiation due to hanging."

According to the autopsy, there was no fracture in her neck, and no injuries or signs of violence were found on her body.

The police are investigating the matter, considering all angles, including the history of suicidal tendencies in the victim's family.

The investigation revealed that the woman's brother had also committed suicide six months ago.
