A group of robbers targeted two policemen on the Superhighway in Karachi, making off with their mobile phones and official weapons, the department confirmed on Tuesday.

According to police, three motorcycle-riding suspects intercepted Sub-Inspector Shehzad and Constable Zakir near Gadap Highway.

The 50-year-old and 22-year-old victims were taken hostage by the suspects on high vehicles moving road in the port city.

The law enforcers said the muggers brutally tortured the cops and snatched their government-issued weapons.

Following the incident, the robbers easily fled the crime scene.

The Karachi police have launched a search operation to apprehend the culprits.

The alarming incident highlights the escalating street crime menace in the metropolis. 

Earlier, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) released a report revealing a staggering 5,960 criminal incidents in Karachi during August.

The report noted that 5,951 incidents involved snatching and theft of cell phones, motorbikes, and other vehicles.
