Christian man tortured by mob over blasphemy allegations in Sargodha

An enraged mob in Sargodha's Mujahid Colony tortured a Christian man, who was accused of committing blasphemy, it emerged on Saturday.
Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds of attackers torturing the man and burning his home.
A bystander filming the scene said that the mob accused the two Christian men of burning and desecrating the Holy Quran.
District Police Officer (DPO) Khushab, and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Shariq Kamal Siddiqui, along with members of the peace committee and a large police contingent, arrived at the scene.
Officers in plainclothes transported the injured man in an ambulance.
RPO Siddiqui confirmed that the accused individuals have been apprehended and are currently under investigation.
"Those responsible for disrupting public order will be held accountable for their actions," he stated.

The crowd pelted stones at cops, but the police managed to restore order by dispersing the mob.
Representatives of the Christian community have announced a protest today at the Karachi Press Club over the incident.
In August 2023, a violent mob accused a Christian man of blasphemy and then targeted the whole community in Jaranwala. The instigators then ransacked and set fire to nearly two dozen churches and homes in the area.
A few months earlier, in Lahore's Ichhra Bazaar, an angry crowd harassed a woman accused of blasphemy for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy.
