Shazia Marri defends Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after viral presser moment

PPP MNA and spokesperson Shazia Marri said on Friday that a single interaction between colleagues who had worked together for years should not be judged in isolation, after a video showing PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari speaking curtly to her during a press conference went viral on social media.

The exchange occurred during a press conference following the PPP parliamentary party meeting at Parliament House in Islamabad on Thursday.

During the briefing, a reporter asked Bilawal to comment on suggestions by some government ministers that subjects such as education, health and the Benazir Income Support Programme should be returned to the federal government through a proposed 28th constitutional amendment.

These subjects were transferred to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment passed in 2010.

Bilawal initially said he was unaware of which federal minister the journalist was referring to. At that moment, Marri stepped in to clarify that the statement had actually come from Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Kesoo Mal Kheal Das.

After Shazia Marri intervened, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari replied, “I am not asking you.”

As Marri began to apologise, Bilawal cut in again, saying, “Thank you.”

Following the viral spread of the video clip on social media, Marri appeared to address the incident in a post on X.

She wrote that a single interaction between individuals who had worked closely together for years should not be viewed in isolation, adding that the PPP remained committed to serving the public and that nothing should distract from their shared mission.
