KARACHI: DIG Karachi South Asad Raza, has suspended the SHO of Sahil Police Station, Riaz Sulemani, along with four other policemen, for misbehavior and demanding bribes from a young couple at the beach.
According to the spokesperson, the action was taken following a complaint from the couple, who reported the misconduct.
The suspension is part of disciplinary action, while further inquiries are underway to ascertain the facts and ensure lawful measures.
The South DIG emphasized that such actions by law enforcement personnel will not be tolerated.
Earlier this year, the Sindh High Court has sharply criticized Karachi police for their failure to conduct effective investigations and make arrests, alleging that officers are more focused on extortion than fulfilling their duties.
During a recent hearing, Justice Amjad Ali Sohto expressed frustration over the police’s mishandling of cases and inadequate follow-up on registered complaints.
He emphasized that merely registering cases is insufficient without timely recovery of stolen property and proper identification of accused individuals.
