Sindh makes fire safety measures mandatory at all private schools

Karachi: The Sindh Education Department has made comprehensive fire safety measures mandatory at all private schools across the province, including Karachi, and warned of strict action against institutions found violating the requirements.

According to media reports, schools will be required to install fire alarms, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, while clearly displaying emergency exit routes and floor maps to ensure the safe evacuation of students.

Schools will also be required to conduct at least two fire drills every year and provide staff with training in fire safety and first aid.

The directive further requires regular inspections of electrical systems, laboratories and kitchens to identify and address potential fire hazards.

Additional Director Registration Rafiya Javed said that in the event of an emergency, re-entry into the school premises will be completely prohibited until the authorities issue clearance.

The department warned that schools failing to comply with the prescribed safety measures could face strict action.
