The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint Aaqib Javed as the new head coach for the national cricket team ahead of a series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe.
PCB sources suggest that Javed's selection is based on his prior experience coaching the Lahore Qalandars’ development squad during their tour of Zimbabwe, as well as his past role as the national team’s bowling coach.
Aaqib Javed is being considered for the role Gary Kirsten stepped down as head coach before the tour to Australia. After Kirsten's exit, red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie was tasked with overseeing the white-ball team as well.
Reports indicate that Kirsten's resignation was a result of disagreements with the PCB and selection committee member Aaqib Javed.
Tensions between Kirsten and the PCB had reportedly been escalating for some time, largely due to a conflict regarding Kirsten's request to include his preferred support staff.
Pakistan's matches against Zimbabwe are scheduled to take place from November 24th to December 5th, followed by a visit to South Africa from December 10th to January 7th, which includes three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches.
