Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, has etched his name into the record books by becoming the latest player to score 4,000 runs in Test cricket.

The milestone came on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Centurion, with Babar needing just three runs to reach the 4,000-run mark.

He achieved the feat in style, driving a boundary off South Africa’s Corbin Bosch, a flick past square leg that brought up his 4,000th Test run.

This accomplishment places Babar among an exclusive group of players who have reached the 4,000-run mark in Tests, 5,000 runs in ODIs, and 4,000 runs in T20Is.

He becomes only the third player to achieve this remarkable feat across all three formats of the game.

However, Babar’s stay at the crease was brief. Shortly after reaching the milestone, he was dismissed for just four runs, caught by Aiden Markram off the bowling of Dane Paterson. Despite the early dismissal, Babar's 4,000-run achievement remains a significant moment in his career.

Earlier in the day, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, hoping to take advantage of the pitch conditions as they look to make an early breakthrough.
