Despite his poor performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Pakistani batter Babar Azam is likely to continue as white-ball skipper of the national cricket team, Geo News reported on Thursday citing sources.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to give rest to some important players due to their lackluster performance in the mega event, sources added.
Pakistan faced two consecutive defeats against the USA and India in the mega event.
Babar-XI was beaten by the debutant USA by five runs in a super-over thriller on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
On June 9, India triumphed over Pakistan by six runs in a high-voltage match of the ongoing mega event at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Following the defeats, the cricket board chief Mohsin Naqvi said that the team needed major surgery.
“We thought the cricket team might get better with minor surgery, but after today's abysmal performance, a major surgery is necessary," he said while addressing to media after the Pak-Ind match.
However, the Men in Green registered their first victory of the short-over tournament against Canada on June 11.
