Following the lackluster performance in the home series against Bangladesh, Pakistani batter Babar Azam has been dropped out from the ICC top 10 test rankings.
The development came after the Bengal Tigers clean-swept host team Pakistan in a two-match test series. It was a notable shift for Babar Azam, who longly experienced top rankings.
Babar could manage to score only a half-century in his last 16 innings of the last test, and currently, he holds 712 rating points. His performance during the Bangladesh series led to a decline in his test ranking.
On the other hand, Mohammad Rizwan is the only Pakistani batter who has managed to place in the test rankings. He holds the tenth rank in the ICC list.
Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel dropped from 13 to 20 spots, while Salman Ali Agha also went downward from nine to 31 places.
England’s Joe Root continued in his form and didn’t leave the gap to lose his top position in test batting rankings.
Root hit back-to-back centuries in the second Test of Sri Lanka, leading him to 922 points. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is 63 points behind Root, and with 768 points, he holds second spot in the ICC ranking.
However, William’s two and a single teammate of Root gained third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
Apart from this, the current defeat in the home series also dropped Pakistan’s position in the ICC test ranking, moving from number 6 to 8.
