God gave me opportunity to discover a talented young man like Arshad Nadeem: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed pride in playing an instrumental role in discovering an exceptional athlete like Arshad Nadeem, who brought honor to Pakistan by winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal in 40 years.

PML-N’s official Instagram account shared a video of the premier watching Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem's performance live at the Paris Olympics last night.

According to the ruling party, the Prime Minister raised the slogan of Pakistan Zindabad on Arshad Nadeem's brilliant achievement and setting a new Olympic record in the men's javelin throw.

“Congratulations to the entire nation for winning a medal in the Olympics after three decades,” PM Shehbaz said.

He maintained that the Punjab Youth Festival, initiated by the provincial government, has produced exceptional talent that is now bringing global recognition to Pakistan.

“It’s an honor that Almighty Allah gave me the opportunity to discover a talented young man like Arshad Nadeem,” PM Shehbaz added.

The 27-year-old athlete shattered the Olympic record with a monumental 92.97-meter throw in the men's javelin throw event at the Summer Games.

Pakistan's first-ever Olympic gold medal was won by the hockey team in 1984. The last time Pakistan stood on an Olympic podium was in 1992 when the hockey team clinched bronze at the Barcelona Olympics.

India's Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, finished second this time and clinched a silver medal with an 89.45m throw in his second attempt.

Grenada's Anderson Peters secured a bronze medal with an 88.54m throw, his country's first-ever Olympic medal in a throwing event.
