South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada broke record of Pakisan's legendary pacer Waqas Younis to become fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets during the first Test against Bangladesh.
Rabada achieved the milestone in just 11,817 deliveries, breaking Waqar’s previous record of 12,602 deliveries.
He claimed the record by dismissing Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim for 11 runs on the opening day of the series.
In terms of Test taken, Rabada became the third-fastest South African to take 300 wickets.
For South Africa, Steyn is on top (61 Tests) followed by Donald (63 Tests). The top spot belongs to India's Ravichandran Ashwin who completed 300 Test wickets in his 54th Test. For fast bowlers, the record belongs to former Australia pacer Dennis Lillee.
Bangladesh faced a tough time with the bat, collapsing to just 106 runs, with only Mahmudul Hasan Joy providing some resistance with a top score of 30.
Rabada, along with Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, dominated the Bangladeshi batting line-up, each taking three wickets, giving South Africa control of the match.
Bangladesh are missing all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after security fears forced him to cancel plans to return home.
Shakib announced his retirement from international cricket last month but said that he wanted to play one last red-ball series at home.
The 37-year-old was also a former lawmaker in the government ousted by the revolution, making him a target of public anger.
