Khawaja Asif lauds Haris Rauf’s 6-0 gesture during Pak vs Ind Asia Cup match

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif praised Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf for his bold gesture towards Indian cricket fans during the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup T20.

While fielding on the boundary, Haris was seen responding to chants from Indian spectators by signaling the famous “6-0” with his fingers, referring to Pakistan’s historic victory against India in the four-day war in May.

He also mimicked a plane flying and crashing with his hands, a gesture symbolising the Indian jets shot down by the Pakistan Air Force during the military conflict.

Reacting to the moment, Khawaja Asif expressed his support for the fast bowler. In a post on X, he wrote, “Cricket matches will keep happening, but 6-0 will never be forgotten by India till the end of the world. It will always be remembered.”

In the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup T20, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets. Pakistan had set a target of 172, which India chased down in the 19th over, losing only four wickets.

On Friday, Pakistan Women's team batsman Sidra Amin set a new national record by scoring two consecutive centuries against South Africa. However, her on-field celebration sparked a backlash on social media.

After completing her sixth ODI century, Amin held up her fingers to form a "6" sign. The gesture drew criticism from many on Indian social media, who interpreted it as a political statement.

The sign was seen as a reference to the February 2019 military conflict, during which Pakistan Air Force officials had claimed a "6-0 victory" by downing six Indian planes.

The resulting social media storm accused Pakistani cricketers of politicising the game.
