The Chief Executive of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has initiated the process to promote Pakistan's javelin thrower and Olympian, Arshad Nadeem, to Grade 19.
According to media reports, a formal proposal for his promotion will be presented to the Lesco Board of Directors during their meeting. Arshad Nadeem, who joined Lesco in 2011 as a Grade 7 assistant linesman under the sportsman category, has steadily risen to Grade 18, the highest level within the company for a sportsman, due to his outstanding performance.
Lesco reports that Arshad Nadeem currently serves as a line foreman and is stationed at the Bhati Gate sub-division in Lahore. The upcoming board meeting will mark the first time in Lesco’s history that a recommendation for a sportsman’s promotion to Grade 19 will be considered.
When contacted, Lesco's Chief Executive Engineer, Shahid Haider, explained that under company regulations, a sportsman can be promoted up to Grade 18, a rank already attained by Arshad Nadeem.
However, the Lesco Board of Directors has the authority to approve his promotion to Grade 19, which will be recommended in accordance with the rules. If approved, Arshad Nadeem’s position could be elevated to that of an assistant manager.
