Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has removed Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the national team's selection committee, sources said on Wednesday.

According to the sources, the decision was taken after Green Shirt's lackluster performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq and Bilal Asif will make the decisions regarding the team's selection until further orders.

“Their influence was significant in the selection of the T20 World Cup squad and they showed more support to players who did not perform well,” Geo News reported citing sources.

Sources said that the decision to remove them was in line with 'major surgery' announced by the cricket body chief.

A day earlier, Naqvi also held two meetings with Pakistan's head coaches of three formats and former and current players.

During the first meeting, Naqvi gave a "free hand" to Pakistan’s white-ball coach Gary Kirsten and red-ball coach Jason Gillespie to improve the country's cricket.

Naqvi, in the second gathering, met more than two dozen ex-cricketers to discuss the future of domestic cricket in the country.

In the mega event, the Men in Green suffered consecutive defeats against the debutant USA and India and eventually bowed out of the tournament in the group stage after the match between America and Ireland was washed away due to rain.
