Pakistan's star athlete Haider Ali made the country proud on Friday as he won the bronze medal in the discus throw event at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.

Competing in the F37 category, Ali started strong with a throw of 52.28 metres, holding the first position for the initial two rounds.

However, he faced a setback with three consecutive foul throws, allowing athletes from Uzbekistan and Canada to take the lead.

Despite the challenge, the athlete improved his performance in the final throw, achieving a distance of 52.54 metres.

Although he couldn't surpass the Uzbek and Canadian athletes, he secured the bronze medal.

Uzbekistan's Yuldashev Tolibboy won the gold medal with a throw of 57.28 metres, while Canada's Jesse Zesseu clinched the silver medal.

This marks the 39-year-old sportsman's fourth Paralympic medal, following his gold medal win in the Tokyo Summer Games in 2020.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ali is the only athlete representing Pakistan in the Paralympics 2024, which features 4,400 athletes competing in 23 different sports.
