Pakistan’s Sohail Adnan made history by winning the British Junior Open Squash Championship, ending an 18-year drought for his country at the prestigious tournament.

Adnan triumphed in the Under-13 category, defeating Egypt's top-seeded player, Moeez Tamer Al-Maghazi, in a thrilling final.

Despite trailing 1-2, the young Pakistani staged a remarkable comeback to win the match 3-2. The final scoreline read 11-5, 5-11, 11-6, 7-11, 5-11.

This victory marked the first time since 2007 that a Pakistani player claimed the British Junior Open Under-13 title. The last Pakistani to achieve this feat was Nasir Iqbal, who won the title 18 years ago.

Adnan’s victory also added to an impressive streak, as he recently secured back-to-back wins at the US and Scottish Junior Opens in December.

The rising star showcased exceptional skill throughout the tournament.

He defeated Malaysia’s Wain Isaac Wilson 3-0 in the pre-quarterfinals, with scores of 11-4, 11-7, 11-5, to secure his spot in the top eight.

He also outplayed Germany’s Mats Oliver Efken and Scotland’s Calum Smith in straight sets during earlier rounds.

President Asif Ali Zardari hailed Adnan’s triumph, commending his dedication and hard work in bringing glory to Pakistan. He expressed hope for Adnan’s continued success in the future.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the young athlete on his remarkable achievement.

"Sohail Adnan has brought great honour to Pakistan by clinching this title," said Naqvi. "His remarkable achievement of securing this championship after 18 years has elevated the green flag on an international stage."

"This victory is a great honor for the nation. Adnan's performance has been outstanding, and he truly deserves appreciation for his hard work and determination," Naqvi added.
