Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to reappoint star player Babar Azam as the national cricket team's skipper, however, he is not considered the "favourite captain" among the Green Shirts.
The claim was made by seniour sports journalist Shahid Hashmi during an interview with a private news channel.
"It is absolutely certain that Babar Azam is no longer the favourite captain of the team. If he is given the responsibility, there will definitely be grouping among the team," the journalist said.
On the other hand, the 29-year-old batter demanded cricket body to make him captain across all three formats, ESPN Cricinfo reported on Friday.
The publication said that Babar would not consider PCB's offer if he is not given the reins of all three formats.
However, PCB will announce its final decision regarding the matter after consulting with newly-formed selection committee.
Currently, Shaheen Shah Afridi is the captain of Pakistan team in the T20 format, and Shah Masood is leading in in the Test format.
But, the cricket body has made up its mind to replace Shaheen after the latter's poor performance as skipper in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine.
