Pakistan are set to lock horns with Canada in a must-win match of the T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York today (June 11) at 7:30pm PST.
However, Green Shirts must have to win the match if they want to continue their mega event campaign.
Pakistan began its T20 World Cup 2024 race with two consecutive defeats against the USA and India, landing in a scenario where Green Shirts will depend on other teams' performance.
Babar-XI first faced defeat at the hands of the debutant USA by five runs in a super-over thriller on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
On June 9, India triumphed over Pakistan by six runs in a high-voltage match of the ongoing mega event at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
India and USA are at the top of the Group A points table with four points as both teams have won their previous matches.
On the other hand, Pakistan are in fourth position with zero points and minus run rate after losing two matches.
If Green Shirts want to sail through the group stage, they must win their next two games against Ireland and Canada.
However, today's game against Canada will decide the fate of Babar-XI.
But only winning upcoming matches will not ease conditions for Pakistan. If the USA win its next two matches, Pakistan will be out of the tournament.
Even if Pakistan manage to secure four points in the group standings, the scenario will not become favourable for them as they would need a better net run rate than the US to sail in the Super Eight stage.
