In a historic achievement, two Pakistani sisters, Sybil Sohail and Veronika Sohail, have won gold medals at the international weightlifting championship held in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

The sisters participated in the 52 and 57 kg categories, respectively, and won gold medals in squat, bench press, deadlift, and overall weight.

Their impressive performance has increased Pakistan's gold medal tally to eight in the ongoing Asian Pacific African Combined Weightlifting Championship.

According to Rashid Malik, Secretary of the Weightlifting Federation, the sisters' victory has made the nation proud.

"Sybil and Veronika have hoisted the national flag high with their outstanding performance," Malik said.

The weightlifters' achievement is all the more remarkable given their young age and the fact that they are competing at the international level.

Their younger sister, Twinkle Sohail, will be in action today (June 12), and all three sisters will participate in equipped powerlifting on July 13.

Sports Board Punjab supported the Sohail sisters to fly to Africa to participate in the event.
