A petition seeking sedition charges against the Pakistan team was filed in a local court in Gujranwala for losing matches against the USA and India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The petition was moved by a lawyer in the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Timsal Zaib Naeem.
In the petition, the lawyer argued that a case should be registered against Green Shirts skipper Babar Azam, team players, manager, coach, and chief selector for allegedly betraying the country's trust and hurting national pride.
The court has responded by directing SHO Aroop to submit a report on the matter by June 21, indicating that the petition is being taken seriously.
Pakistan began its T20 World Cup 2024 race with two consecutive defeats against the USA and India, landing in a scenario where Green Shirts will depend on other teams' performance.
Babar-XI first faced defeat at the hands of the debutant USA by five runs in a super-over thriller on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
On June 9, India triumphed over Pakistan by six runs in a high-voltage match of the ongoing mega event at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
However, the Men in Green registered their first victory of the mega event against Canada last night.
