President Asif Ali Zardari has announced a reward of Rs10 crore for Olympian gold medalist Arshad Nadeem.
The President also conferred the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second-highest civilian award, on Nadeem at a ceremony held at the President's House in Islamabad on Thursday.
During the meeting, President Zardari praised the athlete for making the country proud by setting an Olympic record and inspiring young athletes.
"Arshad Nadeem has made the country proud by setting an Olympic record and inspiring countless young athletes," President Zardari said.
"His outstanding achievement, continuous hard work, and dedication are a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport."
PPP co-chairman emphasised the importance of supporting athletes and their families, suggesting that scholarships should be provided to the children of players.
The President expressed his hope that "Nadeem will continue to shine and bring glory to the country in the future".
Bilawal Bhutto's father also appreciated the services of coach Salman Iqbal Butt for guiding the national hero to success.
"I am humbled and grateful for this honour," Nadeem thanked President for Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
"I will continue to work hard and bring pride to Pakistan."
The 27-year-old sportsman made the country proud on August 8 when he threw a javelin at the record-breaking spot of 92.97 metres at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The throw made him able to end Pakistan's 40-year wait for an individual gold medal at the Summer Games.
Following the achievement, Arshad was showered with announcements of cash prizes and rewards from politicians and celebrities.
