Former Al-Nassr goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah revealed that the Portugese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has consistently shown respect for Islamic practices and expressed an interest in learning about them from his Muslim teammates during his time in Saudi Arabia.
In a recent interview, Waleed suggested that Ronaldo may be considering converting to Islam, as he has reportedly been influenced by former teammates Mesut Özil and Karim Benzema, who shared their beliefs with him.
According to Waleed, one of the most significant signs of Ronaldo's admiration for Islam was when he prostrated on the field after scoring a goal, joining his teammates as they chanted "Allahu Akbar."
Since moving to Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo has demonstrated great respect for local customs and traditions, including Islamic principles. "When the call to prayer sounds during training, Ronaldo asks the coach to pause the session until it's finished," Waleed shared.
He also mentioned that Ronaldo, unfamiliar with Saudi culture upon his arrival, often sought his guidance to better understand local traditions. Ronaldo even encouraged his teammates to prioritize their prayers, including during games.
Praising the former Real Madrid star, Waleed described Ronaldo as one of the most disciplined players, known for his commitment, humility, and simple behavior towards others.
