Former captain of Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi commented on the ongoing Field General Court Martial against former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)  chief Lieutenant General (retired) Faiz Hameed.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Afridi said that the trial strengthens the narrative of self-accountability within the country’s current leadership and sends a clear message that no individual, regardless of their position, is above the law.

He praised the move as a step toward dispelling the perception of immunity for the powerful.

Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed had been formally charged with engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, compromising national security, misusing authority and government resources, and causing harm to individuals.

“On 12 August 2024, process of FGCM was initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (Retd) under provisions of Pakistan Army Act and in first place Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (retd) has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority & government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s),” the ISPR said in a press release.
